The Rustlines Production Process 1. Design & Concept Every product starts with an idea, whether that's a new silhouette, wash, graphic, pocket construction, or an existing piece that we want to reinterpret. We focus heavily on how the final product will look and feel when actually worn. 2. Fabric Selection Once the design is locked, we select the right fabric based on the product. We look at things like weight, texture, stretch, fall, durability, and how the fabric will respond to washing and finishing. 3. First Sample The first sample is made to bring the idea into reality. This is usually where we discover that something that looked great on paper may not work perfectly on the body. 4. Fittings & Corrections We test the sample, check the silhouette, proportions, comfort, and detailing, and make corrections. Sometimes this takes multiple rounds before we're happy with the product. 5. Washing & Treatment For products involving special washes, fading, acid wash, distressing, or other treatments, the piece goes through the required washing and finishing process. This is often where the product gets its final character. 6. Detailing & Finishing Details such as patchwork, prints, pockets, hardware, stitching, and other elements are added or refined. For some Rustlines pieces, this involves considerable handwork and coordination with our tailors, artisans, and production team. 7. Quality Check Before anything reaches the customer, we inspect the finished pieces for fit, stitching, finishing, wash consistency, and overall quality. 8. Small-Batch Production Once the final sample is approved, we produce the collection in controlled quantities rather than mass-producing huge volumes. This allows us to experiment more, maintain quality, and keep many of our drops limited.
